Reflections on Mark 8:1-10
A second time, Jesus feeds an inordinately large crowd with just a scant few loaves and fishes.
A second time, Jesus has compassion on the people without them complaining or grumbling.
A second time, the large crowd had followed out to a desolate area where there were little resources other than Christ, Himself.
A second time, the disciples are perplexed by the riddle of how to feed such a large group with such a small portion of resources.
A second time, Jesus is not bothered by the size of the need, but instead focuses the attention on what is available.
A second time He blesses and gives thanks for that which is present.
A second time, everyone is filled and satisfied.
A second time, the leftovers exceed the first supply.
How many "second times" do I need to experience before I trust - not in presumptive faith, but in peaceful faith?
How many "second times" do I need to experience before I trust - that he knows my every true need?
How many "second times" do I need to experience before I trust - enough to give him the entirety of my scant resources to use for his purposes?
How many "second times" do I need to experience before I trust - that when I can see no solution, he has the situation well in hand?
How many "second times" do I need to experience before I trust - the main resource I need is Christ, himself?
How many "second times" do I need to experience before I trust - there is no situation overwhelming to the Creator of all things?
How many "second times" do I need to experience before I trust?
Probably one more.
May the Lord increase my faith through his word and through my memory of his past faithfulness in every situation.
